Unpack the complexities of the Indian Self-Determination Act (ISDA) implementation as panelists explore how this decades-long fight for resources has played out in litigation over secretarial amount funding, the 105(I) lease program, and contract support costs. This panel will offer considerations for in-house counsel advising their tribes on whether to contract and how to take advantage of recent funding opportunities if already contracting.

Jody serves as the General Counsel to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. In this role, he leads the Nation’s Office of Legal Counsel and its Government Affairs department, overseeing all legal and government affairs issues for MPTN, Foxwoods Resort Casino, and all other MPTN initiatives. Jody was formerly in private law practice in Washington, DC, representing tribes, intertribal organizations, and entities doing business in Indian Country on a range of federal Indian law and federal permitting issues. During the Obama Administration, Jody served as Senior Counselor to the Solicitor and Deputy Solicitor – Indian Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Jody received his B.A. from Duke University and J.D. from Columbia University. He is an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina.
